What's the Word on Diapers?

My friend M. told me yesterday that she's heard that once you know you're pregnant, it's a good idea to start stocking up on diapers. The specific suggestion was to buy a pack every time you're at the store (or once a week).

B. and I talked about it and thought it was a darn good idea. Except we have no idea what to buy. Pampers, Huggies, store brand? What size(s)? Should we just go to Costco once a month and buy a box 'o diapers instead?

So, give us some advice. Is this a good idea? How many diapers can we expect to go through in a month? What sizes should we get? Does brand "really" matter?

It's a Boy!

Gotcha!

It's time for another round of predictions. According to iVillage.com I'm having a boy because:
  • I didn't experience morning sickness
  • I am craving salty foods
  • My pillow faces north when I sleep
  • I am having headaches
  • The sum of my age at conception and the month of conception is an even number

I Never Knew I was this Squeamish

Does anyone else think it's strange that What to Expect says I should hold a navel orange in my hand this week to picture how big our baby is, then eat it?

Curious why your body is finally looking like it's pregnant? That's because your baby is growing bigger each week — he or she is as long as four and a half inches right now. Need a better visual (and a snack)? Hold a large navel orange in your hand — that's how big your little darlin' is. (Now that you're done looking, peel that orange and eat it for a delicious two servings of vitamin C!).

I think I'm thinking too much.

The Benefits Never End

I know they probably intend for these Expectant Mother parking spots to be used by women a little further along than I am, but I took advantage of this little bonus yesterday anyway.

Eww!

I just read on the babycenter.com that at 14 weeks babies are producing urine and releasing it into the amniotic fluid around them. He/she is sitting in their own urine for the next six months and A. is literally full of piss all the time. I'm glad I'm not a growing fetus anymore.

Hi, My Name Is ...

Every time I tell someone I'm pregnant, they inevitably ask two questions: when are you due and what are you naming the baby.

The first answer is easy (February 12). The second answer we're keeping to ourselves, at least for now. We think we have two solid possibilities, but things could change.

One thing that won't change is the fact that we are naming our baby. I heard recently that an Orlando couple offered to trade the right to name their baby for a gas card. (This says a whole lot about society and the state of things today.) Two deejays have offered to hand over a $100 gas card when the baby is born in December, as long as they can name the baby 'Dixon and Willoughby Partin'. The 'and' would be included in the child's first name.

Lucky for us the suggestions we have gotten -
Geoff (from Billy's brother), David (from a friend), Kelly Louise (from another friend) and Brian/Brianna (from a coworker) - aren't as bad as 'Dixon and Willoughby', but they still aren't in the running. Sorry guys.

I Thought I Was on a Roll

I am proud to announce that it's been (roughly) 15 years, 3 months and 2 days since I've changed a diaper. I've narrowly avoided many a close call, but avoided them I have. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that those days are about over.

In an effort to continue my streak, I played a little word association with B. the other day. It didn't work, but it was a good shot. It went a little something like this:

Me: Hey, B., do you like the color orange?

B.: Yes.

Me: Do you like the Bills?
B.: Yes.

Me: Do you like the Indians?

B.: Yes.

Me: Do you like Reese's Whipped candy bars?

B.: Yes.

Me: Do you like sushi?

B.: Yes.

Me: Will you change all our baby's diapers when the time comes?

B.: NO!

I bet he'll change his mind during delivery.

It's a Girl!

That got your attention, didn't it? The truth is we don't know if our baby is going to be a boy or a girl, but we thought it'd be fun to take some predictor tests along the way.

The first, using the Chinese Lunar Calendar, says it'll be a girl.

S/he has Flippers

Nine-week ultrasound picture! It probably looks like a blob to you, but our baby's head is on the left. And there's an arm near the top center. And there's a leg near the bottom right. Isn't s/he cute?
